Project Description

Structural steel remediation in Maroubra

Careful planning, attention to detail and clever access methodology were hallmarks of this structural steel remediation project. As a result, our approach was efficient and cost-effective.

The aim of this project was to remediate structural steel and provide a protective coating to prolong the life of the building.

The existing structural steel on the building facade was exposed to the coastal environment causing severe corrosion.

Dealing with architectural louvres

The logistics of the project provided a challenge in terms of full access to the corroded steel. In order to gain access, the existing architectural facade louvre system was removed and reinstated.

Each louvred section was unique in shape which required documentation and reinstatement into its exact original position.

The architectural louvred system design is a “wave” shape, moving outwards from the building facade. This required careful removal with an EWP before scaffold access could be installed.

Onsite welding was required to replace the section of steel with excessive corrosion and loss of steel. Careful planning and protection was required to set up weld locations near-live environments and finished material elements.

Experience led to great results

The result of this project was a cost-effective approach in relation to the access methodology. We efficiently completed the schedule of works based on extensive past experience in other remedial projects.
